Faculty Research Assistant

Alison Thompson

I assist with a variety of activities in the Plant Pathology Program at the Columbia Basin Agricultural Research Center in Pendleton, Oregon. I contribute to research in the lab and greenhouse as well as in the field. I help with the setting up, rating and harvesting of greenhouse root-lesion nematode (RLN) resistance trials and field tolerance trials; also the setting up and rating of the sand bed and/or greenhouse Fusarium resistance trials on wheat and barley cultivars. In addition to the greenhouse trials I aid in the set up and maintenance of a crossing block which aims to incorporate resistance genes into local wheat varieties. My lab duties include aiding in maintaining pure RLN carrot cultures for use in the resistance trials and I have recently begun helping with DNA extractions of RLN’s for molecular diagnostics.
